  9.     Intelec has been relaying since Sept 1989 and we'll be around for a long
  10.     long time. Many other networks advertise the fact that they're different
  11.     but Intelec shows it right out in the public eye. We have a fully public
  12.     NetAdmin conference for users and SysOps alike  to offer up their views.
  13.     With one administrator there's no red tape or committees, issues are re-
  14.     solved faster than any other network.  Problem users are dealt with much
  15.     more expeditiously than in other networks so our friendly environment is
  16.     maintained. We have more mail flow than most other networks  and we keep
  17.     the quality level high. We firmly believe in respect and we don't permit
  18.     profanity or flaming in our conferences! If your users would like to ex-
  19.     change e-mail with a friendly bunch of people, join the Intelec Network!
  20.     But if quality means little or nothing to you you've got a small handful
  21.     of networks left to choose from. Afterall, that's why Intelec has become
  22.     so popular, our quality sets us apart!  Intelec Network is an active net
  23.     and one of the highest in quality and activity! But we're strict when it
  24.     comes to our policies. There is no free speech in Intelec  and our rules
  25.     of behavior are all strictly enforced.  But this has a beautiful result,
  26.     there is no anarchy here, those making themselves a problem, are removed
  27.     after 2 offenses and if severe enough without warning at all. The result
  28.     is a peaceful network  where opposing viewpoints are discussed maturely,
  29.     and a calm and enjoyable atmosphere is easily maintained.  If your board
  30.     is full of users seeking this kind of e-mail sanctuary, they will have a
  31.     very good time with our network.  If they are problematic, arrogant, and
  32.     immature, applying may not be a good idea.  Boards with constant problem
  33.     users are eventually removed entirely and sometimes permanently.  But we
  34.     have found it's far more common for users to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere
  35.     than to try to destroy it. We have been around for many years now and we
  36.     know how to treat users, with respect.  Intelec has more quality traffic
  37.     nearly every other BBS network around, and without the anarchy  found in
  38.     nearly every other BBS network relaying today.  Intelec, # 1 in quality!

  40.     Intelec currently supports QWK and FTS formats  and is available via FTP
  41.     and Satellite in "QWK format" only. The Intelec Network does not support
  42.     PostLink/PCRelay but we will be looking into other formats as technology
  43.     advances or as QWK standards improve. FTS includes any "Fido-compatible"
  44.     tossers such as QFront, Front Door, D'Bridge, FidoPCB, PCBFido, etc.....

  48.                               SOME COMMON MISTAKES
  49.  
  50.       We're all human, we all make mistakes. This file is here to describe
  51.       what some of the more common mistakes we've noticed are  and what we
  52.       can do to help prevent making them or repeating them  in the future.
  53.       Mind you, some of these are required  and some are only suggestions.
  54.  
  55.       Users with aliases or unvalidated users sometimes get in the network
  56.       and use profanity.  To help prevent this from happening through your
  57.       system, you might consider only giving the ability to enter "public"
  58.       mail to those who have been validated.
  59.  
  60.       Every once in a while, software seems to have a mind of it's own. If
  61.       you know that the network REP packets  that your system generates is
  62.       less than 50K, use our free utility IS.EXE to check it's size before
  63.       you upload it to the hub site. This can save you real embarrassment!
  64.       IS.EXE & docs are available on the Intelec Host BBS and other sites.

  66.       If you are approved for Intelec relays,  *do not* send through those
  67.       "My BBS is now echoing this conference" type posts in any conference
  68.       other than NetAdmin.
  69.  
  70.       If you're a PCBoard SysOp, do not enable the "origin tagline" in PCB
  71.       Setup. We don't use them in the network and is only useless baggage.
  72.       If the feature is eventually useful for something, it'll be allowed.

  74.       Our name... We've seen some pretty weird variations of our name used
  75.       and we want to share some of the winners here.  Granted, it can be a
  76.       bit confusing. We have seen INTELLECT, INTELECT and INTELLEC to show
  77.       a few. Our name is Intelec. Only one L and only one T. While our net
  78.       is also quite *intellectual*, our network name has been derived from
  79.       International Telecommunications thus the combination of IN & TELEC.

  81.       Taglines... We require our network name in your tagline. You may use
  82.       any of the following variations,  the ■ is made by pressing ALT 254.
  83.       ■ Intelec ■                       \   We just care that any of these
  84.       ■ Intelec Network ■                >  network "identifiers" are used
  85.       ■ Intelec (tm) Network ■          /   at the START of your taglines.
  86.  
  87.       For SysOps who are connecting to the Intelec Network host system (if
  88.       you are a  Super Regional Hub or Satellite or FTP Node,  this is the
  89.       tagline (the only tagline) that you must show for your Host tagline:
  90.       Intelec Host ■ Oroville CA ■ 916-534-1253 ■ USR D/S V.34    
  91.       The only allowable exceptions are to put a different phone number in
  92.       the tagline, such as 916-534-1253 or 916-534-1263. Any other tagline
  93.       used MUST be corrected to maintain a connection with the host BBS.
  94.  
  95.       Conferences.... Unlike nearly every single network around, Intelec's
  96.       NetAdmin conference is fully public, open to all users.  NetAdmin is
  97.       for administrative issues, discussions  and is a required conference
  98.       to be carried by all Intelec member systems.  Every Intelec SysOp is
  99.       required to follow this conference, "at a minimum" of mail addressed
  100.       to ALL or to THEM.  Or as in "mail-reader-terminology", mail to Y/A.
  101.       It is suggested  that they  scan for mail  addressed from John Young
  102.       if this is easier for them. The last thing I want to see is for mail
  103.       I send  to correct a problem  that is ignored/unread/unresponded to.
  104.       It's even better if we get feedback from our SysOps about conference
  105.       or policy proposals but we know that involvement isn't for everyone.
  106.       Also... Moderators, SysOps and Regionals are ALL private conferences
  107.       none of which should be made available to the general public.
  108.  
  109.       If you make any conference changes on your system,  whether deleting
  110.       or adding any new conferences, do the next mail run manually.  If an
  111.       error was made it is far better that you catch than I catch it. If I
  112.       catch it odds are that hundreds of boards are effected by the error.
  113.       This does not go over very well at all.
  114.  
  115.       If you use PostLink software for any OTHER network(s) you may carry,
  116.       please use prefixes on your conference names, such as IN_Politics or
  117.       RI_NetAdmin. This helps PostLink from getting confused (and it does)
  118.       as to "which" conference to insert mail to.  Cross-echoes are also a
  119.       serious problem that we do NOT appreciate. These mistakes being made
  120.       with PostLink is why PostLink isn't approved for use within Intelec.
  121.       It is not to criticize those running it successfully, it is a decent
  122.       piece of software when setup properly,  but not everyone seems to be
  123.       able to properly configure it, so Intelec Network cannot support it.
  124.  
  125.       Lastly, SysOps are to have read the network rules, this is required.
  126.       Some do, but some don't. Some don't have any idea that something may
  127.       be a rule, and trust me, we enforce them all. Our rules are all fair
  128.       and easy to follow and we have them only for the fact that we do not
  129.       tolerate obnoxious/troublemaking users. We're VERY swift in removing
  130.       them to keep our quality level high!  So do us all a favor, and take
  131.       the time to read over our NETRULES.IN file.  When you do I think you
  132.       will be pleased with how well Intelec is managed.  We are not one of
  133.       the leading BBS networks for nothing.

  135.                      Intelec Network    Application Process

  137.    │ Upload your application directly to the hub you wish to relay through. │
  138.    │ Hubs are listed in HUB_LIST.IN. If the board you wish to relay through │
  139.    │ is not in this list, then you can't apply to relay through that board. │
  140.    │ Then, the hub will call your board to approve or decline and if you're │
  141.    │ approved you can begin relays in as little as 24 hours!!  If you apply │
  142.    │ directly with the host (if not a "Satellite / FTP" SysOp requesting to │
  143.    │ relay with the host) then you could be putting "several days" of delay │
  144.    │ into your application. If/When approved, forward the membership fee if │
  145.    │ it applies to you (North American Applicants Only) Thank you very much │
